A simple explanation

What a rehabilitation consultant can do with you

A workplace rehabilitation provider helps people plan a safe, practical path through recovery at work. The work is shaped around your circumstances, treating advice, job demands and an agreed referral.

Listen and understand

Your consultant should take time to understand what is difficult, what you want to achieve and what advice you have received from your treating team. You can raise questions and concerns about the plan.

Connect the people and the work

With appropriate consent and within the agreed service, the consultant may speak with your employer, treating practitioner and insurer; review the duties available; and help everyone understand practical adjustments. The aim is a plan that fits your current situation and can be reviewed as things change.

Support life as well as work

Many people want to return to everyday routines, family activities and things they enjoy as well as work. Tell your consultant what matters to you so those goals can be part of the conversation.

Understand the limits

A rehabilitation consultant does not replace your doctor, decide your compensation entitlements or guarantee a particular outcome. The insurer arranges and pays for agreed rehabilitation services. Ask what has been approved and who to contact if the plan is unclear.
